Track Name: Charles Ray Hastings Jr. - Sold For A Rose
never felt happy, never felt dry
so I drank myself to a sunrise blind
baby was a word I used for those to the left
of everything that couldn’t be claimed by debt
same for the brass cross that followed me around
from the belly to the city limits of my hometown
but who knew I’d be the man tying the noose
and the one crying about it, singing the blues.
when the world follows me down to the grave
helps me dig the hole and sin with sustain
before I lower my beaten soul into the hole
I’ve been beaten and broken and sold for a rose
never felt right, been pushed from the left
I don’t believe in the words that built the steps
that rise to the glory of the soapbox we’re given
they gave us our spot to complain and die
I’ll trip over myself and the view I have of where the sun sets
cause I know my view will never be the best
so cram it all into an envelope and mail it to my future self
there’s nothing that can undo the inherent mess.
when the world follows me down to the grave
helps me dig the hole and sin with sustain
before I lower my beaten soul into the hole
I’ve been beaten and broken and sold for a rose
