about

Sorry about writing so much about religion. I'll keep it short and simple, growing up in the south, my whole life, all I've heard is fear god and obey. I say, where I start can not be my final destination and fearing the beauty of the universe is silly.
-Charles

This was probably the least prepared song for the EP. Eris, Charles, and I talked about how we needed to try to throw something in that kind of called back to some older LFT material, since the rest of the EP was branching out pretty far. This song is pretty much a 50/50 split between Charles and I. I worked out and recorded all the instrumentation in a couple of hours and the next night he cranked out the main vocal. This song sticks out to me a lot for a couple of reasons: The music bounces through 7/4, 5/4, and 4/4 a few times without feeling jarring; mine and Charles's vocals in the chorus blend in a way where you don't really know which is the "main" melody; and it's probably the most bare bones song, and the one that came together the fastest from the moment we started it to the moment we finished tracking.
-Tom

lyrics

what happens when you preach god to the devoted
circle jerk of influence and insolence?
nothing’s sacred after you see the true light
there’s no truth or light wherever we begin
change your pissiness to wine
so I can drink it till I’m blind
now the distance grows with age
I care less and less everyday
but to those younger than I
don’t hide who you are inside
ugly is exactly what what ugly does
keep your hands in your pockets, life will bloom
fuck your friends unless you see them around in five years
everyone’s running in different directions
